The Big Things are the Small Things

Georgia and I had a girl's day out this past week. Because a day together would never be complete without a trip to a bookstore, we visited Barnes and Noble. G had a couple of gift cards to spend and we both needed (not wanted, NEEDED) to stock up on some new reading material. One of my favorite areas in the store is the stationary section. I love looking at all of the pens, journals, cards, and albums. It's the nerd in me...I can't help it. While perusing all of the items, a specific journal caught my eye. The title was "Like Mother, Like Daughter ~ A Discovery Journal for the Two of Us." The book featured fun prompts for mother & daughter to answer. Questions as simple as favorite movies and songs to more thought provoking questions such as "Who should play you in a movie about your life, who should play me?" Etc. After showing it to Georgia and having her say, "Mom, really?" I knew I had to include it in my purchases. We are now on page 24 of the book and we have both enjoyed answering the questions. Some answers are predictable and some are a surprise. I never, ever regret time spent with my daughter. Too often, however, that time spent together is not as productive as it should be. She may be talking away while I am only half listening as I cook or clean. Or I may be wanting to talk to her but she is in the middle of watching a movie or texting someone. We are physically spending time together, but emotionally we are not present. Spending ten-fifteen minutes each day discussing the topics in this book has given us something to look forward to. I love learning new things about my daughter and she has enjoyed it, too. Who knows? In years to come, this may be a treasure to my future grand kids and great grand-kids. I like to think so anyway.

I Married Him For His Cooking

The other day Ricky came home with a bag of new potatoes and some fresh rosemary. He said he saw a recipe on the internet he wanted to try (you've probably all seen it--"Smashed Potatoes"). Well, tonight was the night. I suggested he grill some chicken to go with it and we would call it a meal. We invited my inlaws to come eat with us. Of course my mother-in-law, who wouldn't dream of coming empty handed, brought fresh stewed squash and cornbread. Can I just say it was delicious? Although, I really don't think you can mess up a potato... just saying. Anyway, I'm going to brag on the hubby a little bit. Maybe then he will want to try out recipes more often. It's worth a shot, right? :)

He knows his way around the kitchen.

                                                            Thinks he is Emeril!

Sprinkling the olive oil and rosemary.

                                                                 The finished product.

                                                                      He's proud.

Simple, but delicious.

Quite Tasty!

Ricky & I both love cabbage. Georgia hates it, but since she deserted us this week, I thought tonight would be an excellent time to try out a recipe I found on Pinterest a few weeks ago. I made a few changes- used ground sausage instead of hamburger meat, garlic powder instead of garlic cloves, and didn't add dried mint (Who uses dried mint?). It was a hit! Will definitely be making this again.

Come Home Now, Georgia Cloud!

It had to happen sooner or later... My fourteen year old baby is becoming an independent young lady. She has been in New Orleans with my brother and niece since Tuesday. She's coming home today.
That's four nights and five days-the longest she has ever been away from home without me. And, to my dismay, she has had the best time..without me! Is it wrong of me to say that causes my heart to hurt a little? I know, I know...roots & wings. But darn. I'm just going to say I hope to see a little relief on her face when she walks through the door and sees me. I want to hear a proclamation of how much she's missed me and she's never leaving home again. Okay. Not really. Well, maybe a little. Don't judge me. My baby will be grown before I know it and I am not ready. ~Sigh~

I think she looks very sad in this picture, don't you?

Sixteen Years Already?

  • Today is my 16th wedding anniversary. Sometimes it seems like time has flown and other times it seems impossible that we didn't just get married yesterday. We are not a mushy couple. Never have been. But, we get one another. Our home is a happy one.  I am pleased that I said "I do" sixteen years ago and I know he feels the same way.❤️

Let's Do This!

Hello friends!

So I've decided to create a blog.  I love scrapbooking, but I rarely have the time to just sit down and work on my albums.  I am hoping that this will be a way for me to keep up with the daily happenings in our lives.  We shall see!
